Carman McNary Biography

Carman R. McNary, Q.C., CD, ICD.D

Mr. McNary practices law as a Partner with Dentons Canada LLP, concentrating his practice primarily in the areas of taxation and corporate law, including strategic approach to and governance for risk. He chaired Dentons' National Tax Practice group from 2002 to 2012, and was Managing Partner of the Edmonton office from 2013 through 2017.

Mr. McNary served for over 33 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, retiring with the rank of Captain (Navy). He is a board director for private corporations and not for profit organizations, most notably including Chair, Edmonton Screen Industries Office, Past Chair of the Edmonton Community Foundation and Past Chair of both the Edmonton and Alberta Chambers of Commerce. He has also served on a number of civic committees and task forces, including Vice Chair of the Advisory Committee to the Metro Mayors and member of the City of Edmonton Poverty Task Force. Mr. McNary has been recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada as "Lawyer of the Year" in Tax Law (Edmonton - 2013 and again in 2018) and as one of Canada’s leading lawyers in the area of Tax Law in 2013 through 2017. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration for his naval service, and was also awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee medals as well as the Alberta Centennial Medal in recognition of his contributions to Canada and his community. Mr. McNary is a resident of the City of Edmonton.
