The first phase of the redevelopment includes the four-story, 1,800 stall parkade, a new parking toll plaza, roadway realignment, new overhead signage, roof replacement over the north holdroom and ticket counter areas, and 5,650 square meters of apron expansion. Subsequent phases, which would include a substantial expansion of the terminal building and apron areas, will be considered by Edmonton Airports Board of Directors this spring.

"With the parkade completion, Edmonton Airports has invested some $60 million into air service facilities in our community, investment that would not have otherwise occurred," said Sid Hanson, Chairman, Edmonton Airports Board of Directors. "This represents the renewed vision of not only our airport but our community, and we at Edmonton Airports will help to lead our community with continued development of airport infrastructure and community economic growth."

In addition to daily and hourly parking services, the parkade will house an enclosed car rental area and is connected to the terminal by a covered walkway. The parkade has the capability for further expansion of up to 7 levels and more than 3,500 stalls.

Construction on the facility began in February 1998. The parkade will cost a half million dollars less than the original cost estimate of $21 million. The Air Terminal Redevelopment project is funded by the Airport Improvement Fee.
