Ottawa – The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) and Edmonton Airports today issued their list of Holiday Travel Tips to prevent the holiday grinch from trying to steal travellers’ good cheer. The checklist is designed to help travellers have a pleasant and stress-free flight this busy travel season.
“Thousands of Canadians will be travelling by plane to see their loved ones this holiday season. CATSA wants to make sure they arrive safely. We urge travellers to be mindful of security and the people responsible for protecting them. That begins with knowing what to pack and what to leave behind,” says Jacques Duchesneau, CATSA President and Chief Executive Officer.
The period from Christmas to New Year is one of the busiest travel seasons of the year. Extra traffic creates longer waits at the airport. Passengers are advised to arrive early and be patient.
Screening officers are tasked with ensuring passenger security. Passengers themselves play an important role at checkpoints. Their co-operation and understanding help keep the screening lines flowing.
Travellers should pay particular attention to the new regulations regarding liquids. Pack liquids and aerosols, such as sunscreen, hair gel and perfume, in checked baggage. Liquid items are only allowed in carry-on luggage when packed in containers with a capacity of 100 ml / 100 grams (3.4 oz.) or less. The containers must fit comfortably in one clear, closed and re-sealable plastic bag with a capacity of no more than 1 litre (1 quart). One bag per person is allowed.
