Leonard Blumethal
Mr. Blumenthal held a distinguished 35-year career with the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC), and retired as the organization’s President & CEO in 1998. Since retiring from AADAC, Mr. Blumenthal continues to provide consulting and expertise to a number of organizations in the area of drug and alcohol treatment, prevention and research, and received an Honourary Doctor of Laws (LLD) from University of Lethbridge in 2000.
Mr. Blumenthal is a past Chair of the Board of Alcoholics Anonymous for the United States and Canada and continues to serve as a member of that Board. He has served as a Board member of the Capital Health Authority, the Alberta Secretariat for Action on Homelessness, the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, and the International Council on Alcohol and Addictions. Additionally, he has worked with various United Nations agencies including World Health Organization, International Labour Organization and the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime. Contracted as Canada’s Principal Expert, he spent four years working with the Inter-American Anti-Drug Commission of the Organization of American States. Mr. Blumenthal is a resident of Leduc County.
